Both day students and boarders may apply for Scholarships at Barker
- boys entering Year 7 - day places only. Students must be in Year 6 at the time of the examination.
- boys and girls entering Year 10 - day and boarding places. Students must be in Year 9 at the time of the examination.
All Scholarships are subject to annual review but are normally tenable until Year 12, subject to continuing satisfactory performance and conduct.
The purpose of the scholarship program is to identify students of outstanding academic potential.
Students undertake four tests as part of this process. The first three parts are multiple choice formats.
1. An aptitude test which is predominately verbal and numeric in nature.
2. A reading comprehension task which focuses on inference, analysis and reasoning.
3. A mathematics task which asses reasoning and analytical skills.
4. A writing / essay task assessing the student's facility for written language
Different tests are targeted at different year levels and are designed to differentiate ability levels of higher performing students.
The School uses the test information, school reports, questionnaires and a variety of other criteria in its decisions regarding the awarding of scholarships.
Individual scholarship results are NOT available to parents.
