Scholarship Examinations for Year 7 and Year 10, 2011
Scholarships examinations will be held at Barker on SATURDAY 20 MARCH 2010.
On-line application, accessed through this website, will open 18 November 2009.
Applications will close on 12 March 2010.
General Information
All Scholarships have the same academic assessment. Candidates undertake only one assessment.
Music Scholarship candidates must complete and excel in the academic examination as well as satisfying the audition requirements to be eligible for a Music Scholarship.
Eligibility
- Year 7, 2011 - Students must be in Year 6 at the time of the examination. Day places only.
- Year 10, 2011 - Students must be in Year 9 at the time of the examination. Day and Boarding places.
All Scholarships are subject to annual review but are normally tenable until Year 12, subject to continuing satisfactory performance and conduct.
The purpose of the scholarship program is to identify students of outstanding academic potential.
Students undertake four tests as part of this process. The first three parts are multiple choice formats.
- An aptitude test which is predominately verbal and numeric in nature.
- A reading comprehension task which focuses on inference, analysis and reasoning.
- A mathematics task which assess reasoning and analytical skills.
- A writing / essay task assessing the student's facility for written language.
Year 10 - Council, Music, OBA (child or grandchild of past Barker student), OBA - open to all candidates, Leslie's Men (all rounder; means assessed), Reefton (part) Council Boarding (open to NSW country students), ICPA (financial member of ICPA).
The Barker Foundation Limited has, from time to time, the ability to offer a scholarship to a candidate who is recommended to them by the Scholarship Panel.
