Barker College Mothers' Association
The BCMA was founded in 1926, the year after a small group of mothers led by Mrs Mary McKenzie successfully helped Mr WC Carter construct a pavilion adjoining the Barker College War Memorial Oval. Since then, the tireless efforts of successive generations of Barker mothers have raised funds through fetes and fairs, morning teas, luncheons, dinners and suppers, as well as through their voluntary work in Tuckshops and the Clothing Pool, to fund major capital projects such as the Rosewood Pavilion, the CAD Room in the Design Centre; the spectator seating at the Junior School Basketball courts, the Kitchen in the Marks Pavilion, the refurbishment of Boyce Hall, and the restoration of the School Clock Tower. In addition, their fundraising has provided countless musical instruments for the Music Centre, library books and other resources, teaching and coaching aids, and learning kits. In a raft of other ways the BCMA has ensured that Barker students have always had what they needed to enjoy a quality education. The BCMA celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2006.

6. Boarders Parent Liaison & City Families
Boarding has been an integral part of Barker and the BCMA provides a link from home to school. A City Family Scheme has been established to enable boarders from far afield to have a city family associated with the School which can provide a local contact as well as occasional weekend leave opportunities. Boarding parents are seen as just as much a part of the parent community as our city families and we encourage them to get involved. Contact the convenors below to see how you can participate.
- Boarder Parent Liaison & City Families Convenor – Jenny Kalaf
7. Foundation
The School's impressive and extensive facilities are a testimony of the work of past generations of the Barker Community and this has been supported in more recent years by the work of the Foundation through its Building and Library Fund. The BCMA has a representative on the Foundation and she can assist you with any inquires you may have.
Foundation Representatives – Wendy Thompson & Susan Kirkby
8. Second Hand Books
At the close of each school year a group of dedicated volunteer mothers collects and sorts textbooks. Each child can return selected texts from his current school year and then apply to purchase second-hand texts for the upcoming year. Please note there is no ability for the school to accept outgoing Y12 texts, we recommend you sell these privately or take to one of the many excellent second-hand book shops.
Second Hand Books Convenor – Charlotte Wells, Louise Kimbell, Narelle Clark, Adrienne Berkley, Geralyn Ong-D'Cruz
9. Kurrajong Society
The Kurrajong Society is open to anyone who loves Barker. Most of its Members are former parents of the School who have already given significant time to parent activities and support groups. Kurrajong Society members remain actively involved in the School, attending plays, concerts and musicals to enjoy the work of present students. They also host their own social occasions bringing former parents, staff and friends of the School together to foster long-standing friendships and relationships, as well as to reminisce about Barker experiences. The Society was not formed as a fundraising group but rather as a means for people with a common interest, that is, Barker College, to meet together. The Kurrajong tree is a robust and persistent tree, and Barker College has its roots in Kurrajong, a small township on the edge of the Blue Mountains where the School's founder, Henry Plume coached students in 1890.
Kurrajong Society Representative – Marlys Haustorfer
10. Charity Convenor
During the year the BCMA raises funds and collects items for donation to many different charities. For example, at the welcome morning teas every mother donates a tin of food which is given to Anglicare or the Salvation Army for families in need. At the end of the year a card of thanks is given to all staff from the BCMA for the hard work and a small donation made on their behalf to a charity that supports children. For more details or how to be involved contact the charity convenor.
