Boarding

BoardingBoardingBoarding
Barker's unique seniors only approach to boarding means that our Boarders are part of a small, secure, family-oriented boarding community of 60 young men and women, where brothers and sisters can share in the same experiences . All our prospective boarders and their families are interviewed to ensure there is a commonality of interests and aspirations amongst this close knit community of Boarders. We enjoy sharing in our Boarders' happy, fulfilling and successful school experiences and look forward to welcoming your son or daughter into our home. Jim Scotford, Head of Boarding

Nowhere is Barker's caring environment more evident than in its boarding houses.

Boarding has always been an integral part of Barker and is available to boys and girls from Years 10 to 12 . A strong emphasis is placed on family-style pastoral care in community living, and Barker boasts a high level of teaching staff involvement with Boarding students.

Boarders have access to the School's extensive sporting facilities in their own time. The music practice rooms, the library and the art and design facilities are also available for Boarders' use out of school hours.

The quality of catering at Barker is outstanding. The School Dining Room is administered by a firm of professional caterers and the menu is carefully planned by the School Catering Services Manager in consultation with the School's medical staff. Careful attention is paid to the nutritional needs of growing young men and women and meal times feature attractive, well-presented and varied menus with abundant choice.

A qualified and experienced nursing sister is in charge of the School Clinic, and the Senior girls are in the hands of experienced and discerning female staff. The School doctors have had a long association with Barker College and its boarding families.

Boarding staff welcome the opportunity to review each boarder's academic progress and personal development with his or her parents.

A City Family Scheme has been established to enable boarders from far afield to have a city family associated with the School which can provide a local contact as well as occasional weekend leave opportunities.
