Pastoral Care
The weekly pastoral care period for Years 7 to 12 gives the students the opportunity to get to know the staff on a more personal level and allows the students to get to know each other better. It involves the discussion of issues that are relevant to the student's academic, social, physical, spiritual and emotional development- the development of the whole person!John Hensley School Counsellor 2000
Pastoral Care of all students is vital to the development of each individual student, and is a primary concern of every member of staff at Barker. In the Junior School, the welfare of each boy is the responsibility of his class teacher, who monitors his academic and general progress.
Each boy in the Middle School is a member of a House, a community of boys in Years 7-9, under the care of a Head of House, who is responsible for the academic progress, welfare and well-being of the boys in the House, and who is the first point of communication with parents.
The academic progress and personal development of each student in the Senior School is the responsibility of a Tutor who provides a link between home and School and who monitors academic progress as well as individual student welfare, functioning very much in the role of a mentor.
Three School Counsellors are available to assist students and their parents, and two Careers Advisers assist students with information regarding career prospects and course requirements.
