2008 Curricular and Co-curricular Activities

The following seeks to highlight a number of areas in which students participated which demonstrates the wide range of activities on offer to our students here at Barker.

Academic:
Barker’s Class of 2008 were enrolled in 46 courses with the NSW Board of Studies, 7 of which were completed through an external provider
Accounting, Agriculture, Ancient History, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Construction, Design and Technology, Drama, Earth & Environmental Science, Economics, English Fundamentals, English (Advanced), English (Standard), English Extension 1, English Extension 2, Fashion Visualisation, French Continuers, French Extension, General Mathematics, Geography, German Continuers, German Extension, History Extension, Hospitality, Industrial Technology, Information Processes & Technology, Information Technology, Italian Beginners, Italian Continuers, Japanese Continuers, Japanese Extension, Latin Continuers, Latin Extension, Legal Studies, Mathematics, Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2, Meetings and Events, Modern History, Music 1, Music 2, Music Extension, Personal Development Health & PE, Physics, Visual Arts.
In addition, students were involved in A Celebration of Words, the Mock Trial, Chess, Debating, Poetry Reading, English Extension 2 Major English Works, Public Speaking, Written Expression and Reading Aloud Competitions, external competitions such as the Westpac Mathematics Competition, Mathematics Olympiad, NSW University Competitions in English, Science, and Titration Competitions.

Spiritual:
Fellowship Camp, Crusaders, Crusader Study Camps, Bible Study Groups, Prayer Groups.

Sport:
Athletics, basketball, cricket, cross-country, dance, diving, equestrian, fencing, football, hockey, lawn bowls, mountain biking, netball, rugby, softball, squash, surf lifesaving, swimming, tae kwon do, tennis, snow sports, softball, volleyball and waterpolo.

Outdoor Education:
Bushwalking, Cadets, Cadet Bivouac, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, Grange Camps, White-water Canoeing, Year 9 Camp, Year 10 Adventure Country Camp and Work Experience, Year 11 Wilderness and Community Service camps, BCCU Ceremonial Parade.

Performing Arts:
Bands, Choir, Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Band, Musicals and Dramatic Performances of “Here Come The Lobsters”, “The Play The Thing”, “The Madness of King George”, “The Crucible”, “Les Miserables” and “West Side Story”, Symphony under the Stars, Barker Chorus, Coffee House and the State and National Shakespeare Festival Finals.

Community Service:
Student Representative Council, Clarke Road Special School, Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal, Amnesty International, World Vision 40 Hour Famine; Tra Xuan Primary School Project in Vietnam, Oz Week, fundraising for St Edmund’s School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Kingdom Aviation Group, Rural Fire Service and various conservation groups.

Camps and Tours:
Tours to Newcastle, Queensland, Pink Lakes, Lizard Island, Perth, Japan, Kanangra, Deep Pass, Little Desert, Perth, Barrington, Jindabyne, New Zealand, France, Greece, Europe, Hong Kong, United States and China.
