Class of 2008
BARKER RANKED TENTH IN NSW ON THE NUMBER OF HSC TOP BANDS
Congratulations to all students in the Class of 2008
Barker Headmaster, Dr Rod Kefford, is proud of the Class of 2008 indicating that Barker’s students had outperformed all but 9 selective high schools and independent schools in the number of Band 6 and Extension E4 Bands they had gained.
Although this class was not as large as the previous year, Barker was again able to have 21 students attain All-Rounder Status (students who achieved the top band in 10 or more units).
More than half the students in Year 12 at Barker in 2008 gained at least one Band 6 or Extension E4 Band. This means that 186 of 313 students were able to score in the top band in at least one subject. These students gained a total of 399 such Bands overall.
Early indications are that 4 out of 5 of Barker Students will gain a UAI above 70 whilst 1 in 3 should have achieved a UAI above 90. This information is based on calculations made from the subject results attained from the Board of Studies for Barker's Class of 2008, as individual UAI’s are not available to the School.
The belief at Barker is that each student should have the opportunity to follow his or her enthusiasms and interests at a level that extends them and develops their capabilities. Students were able to make a wide and varied selection of subjects, with Barker having students enrolled in 46 different HSC courses. The fact that excellent marks were gained across a very broad range of subjects also reflected outstanding teaching across the board as well as significant student effort and application.
The Class of 2008 has again demonstrated the on-going excellence achieved in many areas of Barker's curriculum. We encourage our students to pursue courses of study that interests them, as well as maintaining an involvement in a strong co-curricular program. These results prove again that we have a healthy balance between achievement both inside and outside the classroom.
