The Junior School philosophy of learning
The Junior School is a state of the art teaching and learning centre. Its generously sized classrooms, connecting common areas and additional teaching and learning facilities, provide a warm and ambient environment where the learning community interacts and shares a diverse range of daily experiences.
The development of strong foundational skills in literacy and numeracy is paramount to successful learning and this is the cornerstone of our educational programs. Throughout 2016, the Junior School will continue to investigate the Primary Years Program of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. It aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world, through intercultural understanding and respect. We believe that every child should enjoy the benefits of a broad, well rounded co-curricular program that includes creative and performing arts, sport, STEAM, debating and service and leadership development. At Barker we recognise that gifted and talented students have specific intellectual and social emotional needs that require opportunities to be challenged and extended in pace, depth and complexity.
