Barker College's Mock Trial team competed in the World Championships in New York in November.
This competition consisted of 44 of the best Mock Trial teams from across the world, with the competition being of a much higher standard than last year in San Francisco, where the Barker team received a standing ovation for their 4th placing.
After winning two trials and drawing the third, the team came up against one of the best two teams in the competition, narrowly losing their first trial.
This team went through to the Grand Final. Barker finished equal 5th for the number of ballots they won. However, due to the complicated scoring system and having been placed lower than expected in the initial rankings, the team received a trophy for 11th place, which was an amazing feat!
The Director of the Empire International Mock Trial competition, said that if this Barker team had participated in the San Francisco tournament this year, they would have won, such was the impressive standard of our attorneys and witnesses.
We acknowledge the Darug and the Guringai people who are the traditional custodians of the land on which Barker College stands. We pay respect to the elders past and present of the Darug and Guringai nations and extend that respect to other Aboriginal people within the Barker College community.
