Foundation
"Barker's true wealth lies within the generosity of its community, whose members give so much of their time and their energy, as well as financially.
The Reverend John Griffiths (Chairman of Barker College Council, 1991-2001)
Barker Foundation gives practical expression to the resoucefulness and enthusiasm of the vibrant Barker community.
Since 1981, the Foundation has assisted the School Council to provide countless resources and first-class facilities for teaching and learning at Barker. Successive generations of parents and grandparents, as well as friends of the School, have supported the Foundation in capital fundraising for School buildings, financial assistance to employ staff with specialised skills, funding educational research projects, provision of scholarships, and funding visits from leading overseas and Australian academic specialists and musicians.
Buildings and Resources for Learning
The support of the Foundation members has assisted the School Council to fund the Centenary Design Centre, the Foundation Aquatic Centre, the Hornsby Hundred Building, the secondary school Library, the Foundation Science Centre and the extensions to the Music Centre. More recently, the Foundation funded the Kurrajong Building and the reconstruction of the Junior School.
Members of the Barker Foundation are drawn from the wider Barker community, and are donors to the Foundation's Building Fund, its Library Fund or its Education Trust Fund. Most members of the Board, elected by the members, are parents or past parents of students. Board members have a deep commitment to Barker College, and to enhancing the benefits and opportunities that the Barker community seeks for all of its students.
Foundation Board Chairman, Mr David Charles, is a former student of the School. He is a member of a four-generation Barker family. His son recently left the School and his daughter is a current student. David chaired the fundraising appeal for the refurbishment of the Junior School, and is committed to maintaining the profile of the Foundation among all members of the Barker community.
During its long history, Barker has been richly served by countless parents and friends of the School who have selflessly volunteered their time and talents to ensure that Barker's young people have the best possible facilities and resources for their learning.
The Barker Foundation is committed to continuing that tradition of service in building Barker's future.
