Pre-season training

Has the holiday period been a time where physical activity has been put on the backburner? Are you looking to improve on your performances from the season last year? No matter if you fit into either of these categories or are somewhere in between, the Old Barker Athletics Club (OBAC) has the program for you!

We want to help out our friends from other sports as they start to think about preseason training. That is why we will be holding sprint sessions, so that you can gain that extra step on your opponent over the winter season. There are no restrictions on who can come and there will be a program to follow over a 6 week period to improve your speed, acceleration and running technique.

If this is something that you would like to be involved with the details are:

When: Wednesdays beginning January 23 and then each subsequent week till February 27

Where: Barker College War Memorial Oval (Number 1), Barker College Hornsby

Time: 6 pm

About the Club

We are pleased to welcome you to the Old Barker College Athletics Club (OBCAC). This club has been competing and training for a number of years and would like you to join also!

The club is a chance for you to bring back the speed you used to have or develop the speed that you never had. We train 3 times a week, meeting at 5:30pm for a 5:45pm start and have the following sessions:

  • Monday: At Barker College, Hornsby
  • Wednesday: At Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre (SOPAC), Homebush
  • Thursday: At Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre (SOPAC), Homebush

Further to training we compete each year in the NSW Athletics Summer competition, which runs from late October to early April. This competition caters for beginners to elite athletes.

We are currently small and social club and welcome people of all abilities. There is a sprints focus, with our coach being one of the best sprints coaches in Sydney, however, if middle distance is where you would like to head, we can cater for that too.

There are no costs associated with training with us except the petrol it takes to get there and the track fees at SOPAC ($3.50 for a student, $4.50 for an adult per session).
