Sport in the Junior School provides an opportunity for every student to be given the honour of representing their school on the sports field. Under the guidance of Barker’s excellent coaches, students learn their chosen sport safely whilst gaining competence and skill. Students will compete against other Independent school teams each Saturday from Year 3.
Through sport, students can develop self-confidence and self-esteem and learn to successfully interact with others in a team situation. Students in the Junior School are able to participate in a range of different sports which include Rugby, Tennis, Football, Cricket, Swimming, AFL, Basketball, Athletics and Cross Country.
Students in Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2 are not required to play inter-school Saturday sport. Three times a week, the Prep students engage in an active, skill-based gross motor program under the guidance of specialist PDHPE teachers. Students participate in high energy movement activities focusing on skill development, participation and fitness. Throughout the year the students in Kindergarten to Year 2 are involved in gymnastics, dance, tennis and intensive learn to swim programs.
