You are here:HomeCo-CurricularSportAquatics CentreSchool SwimmingSecondary School Swim Team Requirements Secondary School Swim Team Requirements Representing the School Swim Team Membership A student may elect to be a member of the swimming team at the commencement of the summer sport season. Newly enrolled students in Term 1 may join the team at this point. Students are expected to attend all designated meets as indicated on the team seasonal calendar. Participation Criteria Students will be expected to fulfil participation requirements. EITHER Training the required number of sessions per week in the Barker Aquatic Centre Performance Squad program. Complete the three swimming for sport training sessions each week during Term 4 and Term 1. Choose and participate in another school sport and attend designated Swim Team Calendar events. Performance Criteria Students who have completed the participation criteria will be considered for selection into the Secondary CAS/ ISA Representative Squad through their performance at the annual Barker College Swimming Championships. The final representative squad will be announced following participation and performance in the designated selection meets. Expectations and Exemptions All team members will be required to conform to the team guidelines for travel, attendance, behaviour and participation at designated swim meets. Any students wishing to seek an exemption from any designated event or activity must apply to the Director of Swimming and the Sportsmaster / Director of Girls Sport with a formal letter of notification at least one week in advance. Team Events CAS is a team event. Swimmers may be required to swim up to four individual events at CAS in which he has gained representation. This will be at the discretion of the coaches to allow for optimum team point scoring opportunity. ISA is a team event. There are limited opportunities for selection to individual events. Selection will be at the discretion of the coaches to allow for the optimum team point scoring opportunity. Higher Levels of Representation Selection to higher levels of representation will be based on performance at CAS / ISA and CIS. Competitors will be selected by the respective organisational panels. Swimmers will be required to notify the Director of Swimming of additional events for which they may wish to nominate. Swim Gear and Uniform All swimmers will be required to purchase and wear the representative swimming team shirt to all designated swim meets. Representative swim caps will be provided. Additional caps may be purchased. Appointment of Swim Team Captains The leadership positions will be appointed by the Headmaster based on loyalty and merit qualities deemed necessary for the duties and role of a captain of a sport at Barker College.
